ALLENTOWN – Senator Bob Mensch (R-24) and Representative Justin Simmons (R-131) honored Elizabeth Price, who was selected as an alternate for the 2012 United States Olympic Gymnastics Team which won gold at the Olympic Games held in London, England.
“Elizabeth’s efforts are a testament to the hard work and perseverance needed to compete at an elite level,” said Mensch. “I’m proud that she represented the Lehigh Valley and the state of Pennsylvania at the Olympic Games and I wish her continued success in the future.”
A junior at Bridgeway Academy, Elizabeth began training in gymnastics at the age of three and is currently a senior international elite gymnast at Parkettes National Training Center in Allentown.
“I am extremely impressed with Elizabeth’s passion and dedication to her sport,” said Simmons. “She worked extremely hard to perfect the short routines we saw during the Olympic Trials. I am certain we will see much more of this rising star in the future. We are proud to have her represent the Lehigh Valley.”
At the Parkette Invitational, Elizabeth finished first in vault, uneven bars, floor exercise and the all-around event. Chosen to represent the United States at the City of Jesolo Trophy in Italy, Elizabeth finished sixth overall and helped win the team title. Elizabeth continued to excel with a fifth place finish in the all-around event at the Secret US Classic in Chicago, followed by a fifth place finish at the Visa Championships in Saint Louis.
Qualifying for a spot in the United States Olympic Trials in San Jose, Elizabeth scored career highs in four events and the all-around and finished in fourth place. Following the competition, Elizabeth was named as an alternate to the United States Women’s Olympics Gymnastic Team.
