Harrisburg – Senator Bob Mensch (R- Montgomery, Bucks, Berks) recognized Officer James McVeigh and Corporal Joseph Adam, Jr., of Upper Perk Police District, on November 24, 2014 for their life saving actions. The recognition and presentation of citations took place at the Upper Perk Police Station located on 88 West 6th Street in Pennsburg, PA.
Officer James McVeigh was dispatched to the Pennsburg Diner for a choking victim on February 9, 2014. Upon Officer McVeigh’s arrival, he was approached by Vincent Sakaitis who identified himself as an EMT and offered his assistance. Once inside the diner, Officer McVeigh determined that the patient was unresponsive, not breathing, and had a weak pulse. Both Officer McVeigh and EMT Sakaitis administered rescue breathing and subsequently performed CPR on the victim. The victim was transported to the hospital and it was later determined that the expedient actions of both Officer McVeigh and EMT Sakaitis saved the victims life.
Corporal Joseph Adam Jr responded to a call for a cardiac emergency on July 9, 2014. Upon Corporal Adam’s arrival, he determined that the patient was unconscious, not breathing and had no pulse. Corporal Adam immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with the assistance of the patient’s daughter. After numerous cycles of CPR, the patient began breathing on her own. The patient was transported to the hospital and it was later determined that the expedient actions of Corporal Joseph Adam Jr. saved the patient’s life.
“It was an absolute honor and privilege to recognize these individuals for their selfless efforts in serving their community,” said Senator Mensch. “They rose above and beyond the call of duty and we are fortunate to have these men guarding our community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all emergency responders for their service. We cannot thank you enough for what you do.”
