Dear Friend, In an effort to keep you informed about state and local
issues, I have developed this e-newsletter, which I will be sending out
to residents of the 24th District. I think it is a fast,
convenient and affordable way to get news out to area residents. I
hope you find this e-newsletter useful and informative – and if you know
of someone else who might want to receive it, please feel free to
forward this email. I look forward to hearing from you.
Shortly after 3 p.m., on Monday, October 19, I was sworn into office during a ceremony in the Senate Chamber and started my new job representing the nearly 240,000 residents in Bucks, Lehigh, Montgomery and Northampton counties living in the 24th Senatorial District. I look forward to continuing the work I started as a state Representative to develop legislation and policies that improve the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians and promote economic development and create new jobs. We are in a crucial time in the Commonwealth as we work to restore our economy. We must work to keep young people here. It is essential that we take whatever steps necessary to make Pennsylvania a good place to live, work and raise a family. My top legislative priority is ensuring the Commonwealth has economic development and tax policies that promote economic expansion and job creation and make Pennsylvania the place where business and industry want to be and individuals want to live. I am also committed to farmland and open space preservation, as well as improving transportation infrastructure both within the 24th District and throughout the state. 24th District Offices Remain in Familiar Locations One of my first decisions after the election was to maintain the existing and
familiar district offices and staff across the 24th Senatorial District. Many
folks are familiar with these locations and the great staff people who keep them
running. I want to make it as convenient as possible for the people of the
district to receive the services they need and deserve. That mean You can receive state forms for PACE and the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program; state transportation and fishing maps; and, assistance with PENNDOT, welfare and other state-related matters by contacting any of my offices. The offices are open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lisa Walter serves as my Chief of Staff. The Bucks County Office, staffed by Danielle Bodnar, is located at 312 West Broad Street in Quakertown. The office phone number is (215) 529-1215. The Montgomery County Office, staffed by Nancy Chestek, is located at 427 West Main Street in Lansdale. The office phone number is (215) 368-1500. The Lehigh County Office, staffed by Darlene Horwath, is located at 1245 Chestnut Street, Unit #5, in Emmaus. The office phone number is (610) 965-1466. The Northampton County Office, staffed by Justin Simmons, is located at 1701 Washington Boulevard in Easton. The office phone number is (610) 250-5624. Tim Hennessey, Judy Merrill, Geri Sarfert and Lauren Schenk work out of my Harrisburg office in Room 459 on the Senate side of the Capitol complex. The telephone number is (717) 787-3110 and the Harrisburg office mailing address is Senate Box 203024, Harrisburg, PA 17120-3024. My Committee Assignments Provide Great Opportunities Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati recently appointed me to serve on five Senate committees, including as Vice Chairman of the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee. I look forward to working with the Public Health and Welfare Committee. Since the committee oversees the Department of Health and the Department of Public Welfare, its actions significantly impact the quality of life of many citizens across the state. I will also serve as a member of four other Senate committees: Communications and Technology; Game and Fisheries; Rules and Executive Nominations; and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness. These are excellent assignments. Our region is a target area for the development of high-tech businesses, which is a key role of the Communications and Technology Committee. As a fellow veteran, I understand the needs of the substantial number of veterans living in the district and I can be an advocate for their interests as a member of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee. In addition, I know from my work with the Unami Watershed Conservancy the importance of preserving outdoor recreational opportunities. That’s something I will keep in mind as a member of the Game and Fisheries Committee. I am especially pleased to serve on the Rules and Executive Nominations Committee. This is a very important committee with two major roles. First, this committee must approve nominations by the Governor for major positions such as cabinet secretaries before they can be considered for confirmation by the full Senate. Secondly, the committee must also approve all Senate bills that are sent back with amendments by the House of Representatives before they can come up for a concurrence vote.
