Notary applications now available online

Saves money and time

The Pennsylvania Department of State recently announced that citizens interested in being notary publics can apply online.  The move is expected to save the state a significant amount of staff time and taxpayer money, according to State Senator Bob Mensch (R-24).

"State government agencies are embracing the role the internet can play in streamlining their operations," said Senator Mensch.  "Now applicants can complete, submit and obtain the necessary documentation electronically, cutting costs and saving time."

Pennsylvania law requires the endorsement of the state senator in whose district the notary applicant lives, or in the case of out-of-state residents, the senator in whose district the prospective notary is employed. All 50 state senators are participating in the online application system.

To access online applications, go to http://www.dos.state.pa.us and click on "Become a Notary."  The Department of State will still accept paper applications for the time being, to accommodate applicants who do not have internet access.
