Mensch to Chair Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee

Harrisburg – State Sen. Bob Mensch (R-24) has been appointed to serve as Chair of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness while remaining a member of several key committees for the 2013-14 legislative session.

“I am honored to be named Chair of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee,” said Mensch.  “Pennsylvania is home to nearly one million veterans and I believe we have an obligation to honor all veterans for their service and contributions in both peace and war.  That is why I will continue to support veterans’ programs, benefits and organizations in Pennsylvania.  In addition, I look forward to strengthening Pennsylvania’s emergency preparedness system.”

As a result of this new chairmanship, Senator Mensch will no longer Chair the Senate Aging and Youth Committee, however he will remain a member of the Committee. “It was an honor to be Chair of the Aging and Youth Committee,” said Mensch.  “We successfully approved and passed a set of child protection bills that implemented comprehensive reform, strengthened current laws, and addressed areas were changes were needed in our child protection laws.  I still remain committed to enacting the rest of the child protection package to keep our kids safe.”

In addition to the new post, the senator will remain Vice Chairman of the Senate Public, Health and Welfare Committee and will become a member of the Game and Fisheries Committee.  Mensch will continue to serve as a member on the Appropriations Committee, the Intergovernmental Operations Committee and the Aging and Youth Committee.  He will no longer be a member of the Communications and Technology Committee.

In addition, Mensch co-chairs the Senate Economy, Business and Jobs Caucus, the Community College Caucus, and Chairs the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee.
