Harrisburg – In Harrisburg this week, the Souderton Area High School Baseball Team was recognized in the House chamber and presented with citations from both the House and Senate in recognition of them capturing the PIAA 6A state championship title by Reps. Marcy Toepel (R- Montgomery) and Steven Malagari (D-Montgomery) and Sens. Bob Mensch (R- Berks/Bucks/Montgomery) and Maria Collett (D-Bucks/Montgomery).
“This outstanding group of athletes had an amazing season,” said Toepel. “Each of the players, as well as the coaching staff, are to be commended for the hard work and dedication it took to win the state title.”
This is the first state title for the Souderton Area High School’s baseball program.
“It is my honor to recognize the coaches and assistant coaches for their leadership,” said Mensch. “I also commend the team members for their outstanding performance and commitment to excellence.”
Led by head coach Mike Childs, the Indians won the Suburban One League Continental Conference Championship by going undefeated in league play with an overall record of 24-4.
“The Souderton team has shown not only what great talent, determination and patience can accomplish, but also that you can have a lot of fun while doing it,” said Malagari.
During the championship game, Souderton rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Central Bucks South 6-3 to claim the PIAA 6A state title.
