Harrisburg – State Senator Bob Mensch (R-24) has been tapped to head a key Senate subcommittee on funding the Commonwealth’s public safety initiatives.
Mensch will serve as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Public Safety for the 2019-20 legislative session. He previously chaired the Subcommittee on Infrastructure, Environment and Government Operations, and is a member of the full Senate Appropriations Committee.
Agencies covered by the Subcommittee on Public Safety include the Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole, PEMA and the Office of Attorney General.
“Public safety is one of government’s primary responsibilities, and ensuring it is funded adequately and efficiently is an important task,” Mensch said. “I look forward to leading efforts by this subcommittee to make sure public safety gets the attention it deserves, and that such funds are spent wisely.”
The Appropriations subcommittees were established in 2016 to provide an ongoing fiscal review of state programs outside the traditional budget process. The panels hold joint public hearings with Senate standing committees.
