Mensch Holds Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee Meeting

Harrisburg –  State Sen. Bob Mensch (R-24) recently held a Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee Meeting to consider Senate Bill 1129 (Robbins) and Senate Bill 1224 (Vance).

Senator Mensch was recently appointed to serve as Chair of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness while remaining a member of several key committees for the 2013-14 legislative session.

Senate Bill 1129 (Robbins) amends Title 51 (Military Affairs) in veterans’ pensions and benefits further providing for Paralyzed Veterans’ Pension.  It would rename the pension to “Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans’ Pension”.  The bill aims to make sure those with a disability compensation rating of 40% or higher in two or more limbs are the veterans covered in this section of law.

Senate Bill 1224 (Vance) amends Title 51 (Military Affairs) in long-term care patient access to pharmaceuticals, to include assisted living residences and personal care homes so veterans in those facilities can also acquire lower costs drugs through the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

Both bills were sent to the Senate for full consideration.  For more information on the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, please visit http://veterans.pasenategop.com/.
